What will MAPS 2 do?

MAPS 2 will allow Altus to continue to be a Community of Choice by increasing our local quality of life!

What all projects are involved?

MAPS 2 proposed projects include: Walking and Jogging trails, New and improved sports facilities, community center, aquatic center, animal shelter, creating of a downtown plaza, decreased electricity rates, and numerous safety and technology upgrades throughout Altus Public Schools.

How will these projects be funded?

MAPS 2 projects will be funded by a 1.5 cent special use sales tax. (A DECREASE from the current 1.75 special use sales tax.

What’s the difference between Prop 1 and Prop 2?

  • Prop 1 is a 12 year 1.5 cent sales tax that will help fund numerous “quality of life” projects throughout the city and our public school system.
  • Prop 2 is a perpetual sales tax increase from the current 2% to 2.625%. This small increase will enable the reduction of electric rates, while preserving core services.

What will this special use sales tax make our total sales tax?

With the MAPS 2 special use sales tax of 1.5 cent, Altus total sales tax will be 9.25%

How does Altus total local sales tax compare to other communities in the region?

Altus total local sales tax is in line, and in many case below the total sales tax of other communities in the region.

How much of a reduction should we expect to see in our electric rates?

The small increase in sales tax is projected to lower current residential and commercial electric rates by at least 6%

If MAPS 2 passes, do out-of-town shoppers ultimately help lower our local electric costs?

Yes, they absolutely do.

Lets continue to make Altus a Community of Choice!

Lets continue to make Altus a Community of Choice!

What Is Prop 1?

Prop 1 concerning MAPS 2 is a proposed special use sales tax to effectively replace our current MAPS tax that was used to pay for large city projects as well as badly needed and long-overdue renovations to our high school and other education facilities improvements.

MAPS 2  is all about “quality of life”. It’s a 1.5 cent tax (down from the current 1.75 cents) that will go toward funding projects such as the renovations and improvements on our city reservoir and park, as well as various improvements to our local public schools facilities….helping continue to make Altus a Community of Choice!

The proceeds are to be split 50/50 between city projects and Altus Public Schools.

It’s time to take our city to the next level, MAPS 2 is a continuation of our commitment to a better future for Altus!

Let’s work together and

vote YES

to continue to make Altus a Community of Choice!

What Is Prop 2?

Altus City Services Depend on Local Sales Taxes

Altus 2% Sales Tax was set over 40 years ago.

It has never been adjusted to meet rising expenses and current retail sales trends.

Proposed Increase to Altus City Sales Tax of 0.625%

(5/8 of a penny)

1. This increase from the current 2% to 2.625% will bring Altus more in line with comparable Oklahoma cities which are typically at or near 4.00%

2. This small increase will allow Altus Power to lower current residential and commercial electric rates by at least 6%.

3. The increase means that for every taxable dollar spent in Altus, by resdents as well as out town shoppers, 5/8 of one-cent will go to maintaining and sustaining vital city services such as police, fire, and emergency services to name just a few. ($100 spent at Walmart will cost a shopper an additional 37.5 cents)

What Is Prop 2?

Altus City Services Depend on Local Sales Taxes

Altus 2% Sales Tax was set over 40 years ago.

It has never been adjusted to meet rising expenses and current retail sales trends.

Current Local Sales Tax Breakdown:

4.50% – Oklahoma State Sales Tax

0.63% – Jackson County Sales Tax

2.00% – Altus Sales Tax

1.75% – Current MAPS 1 Special Use Tax
